China has announced new countermeasures against six US-based organisations on 5 August 2026, over their involvement in US sanctions connected to China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
According to China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), the measures took effect immediately. The organisations named are Applied DNA Sciences Inc., Stratum Reservoir LLC, Altana Technologies Inc., the Responsible Business Alliance, Verité Group Inc., and Human Rights in China.
Under the decision, Chinese organisations and individuals are prohibited from carrying out certain transactions, cooperation and other related activities with the listed entities.
The Chinese government says the US sanctions against Chinese companies, which Washington has linked to allegations of forced labour in Xinjiang, violate international law and China’s interests. Beijing has also accused the six organisations of supporting or assisting those US measures.
The latest action was approved through China’s national mechanism for responding to foreign sanctions and is based on provisions of China’s Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law and related implementing rules.
This development is another example of how trade, human rights concerns and national security are increasingly becoming connected in US-China economic relations.
For businesses operating across both markets, such measures highlight the importance of closely monitoring sanctions, export controls, supply-chain requirements and regulatory developments in both countries.
The wider issue also shows how geopolitical tensions can have direct consequences for companies, industry groups and other organisations involved in international business.
As US-China relations continue to evolve, companies with exposure to either market will need to assess regulatory risks carefully and remain prepared for further policy changes.
